It’s surreal to think that we are celebrating the last of 2016 and the beginning of 2017!! I’ve said many times lately that once you have kids you truly start to understand the value of time.
This past year has been absolutely amazing for us. After 2 years of suffering with my health and so many issues with our home and the joys of parenting two kids under 5, finally, we had an absolutely amazing year!
It started in January when we spent the weekend in Toronto at the Annual Boat Show. That alone was pretty amazing as a boating family, however, we all love going to T.O. together. There’s just so much to do.
We had a bit of a slow year travel wise after that because we’d been planning our 10th year anniversary trip to Paris/Italy (I’ll share more about that in an upcoming blog).
However, we did make the annual trek to Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba! The kids absolutely LOVE it there and the people are superb. We’ve made lots of friends down there and try to make it a yearly trip. We generally stay at Melia Las Dunas – it’s the best resort for families!
As the summer came we spent a great deal of time in our 17′ Yamaha Exciter jet boat…
We did a lot of swimming, cruising and Tara started into her wakeboarding career lol. With the in-laws having a cottage on Stag Island, we spent a lot of time over there even with full on renovations going on.
One of the bonuses of Stag is getting to see Col. Hadfield frequently. Here’s a picture of Callie with him 🙂
It’s surreal still to me as he was my idol as a child! The kids love him – Ethan coloured a rocket ship and then walked it down to Chris at his cottage. We are always grateful for this aspect of Stag Island.
As summer came to a close, things began to heat up for our trip to Paris/Italy. Between packing light (another blog to come) to final preparations to actually saying goodbye to the kiddos and hopping on the plane.
Our trip took us to Paris, Versailles, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Cortona, Empoli, Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano, Ravelle, Capri, Rome and everything in between! It was exciting, life-changing and absolutely memorable! We will do follow up blogs on each spot as we have time.
We arrived back home just before Thanksgiving and then I did a solo trip to our nations capital, Ottawa. Enjoyed a brewery tour, Parliment, the Peace Tower, the locks and the Escape Manor (if you have not done this and have one near you – go do it!). If you have never visited the city of Ottawa – do it! Both in winter and summer!
Lastly, on a whim, we heard about the Toronto Christmas Market and decided to go check it out! Incredible. We stayed in an Airbnb (I’ll do a blog very soon on Airbnb and our experiences with it) near the Distillery District and among other things, we spent a day there! This is worth travelling far and wide for!
2016 will go down as one of our best travel years – however, 2017 is certainly going to rival it! Cuba, Montreal, Ann Arbor, Michigan, possibly Sweden and Iceland along with many side trips such as a Blue Jays game, etc. All except Sweden is the four of us 🙂 so stay tuned and please comment below or email, tweet or Facebook us (links below)! Happy New Year and all the best in 2017
